Conducting Neuroimaging Studies at the
Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at MGH
Overview of Required Steps (click for details)
Step 1. Get MGH appointment (for Principal Investigator)
Step 2. Get MGH ID badges (for onsite study staff)
Step 3. Set up Martinos Center computer accounts
Step 4. Sign up for email notification list
Step 5. Satisfy Human Subjects Research Education requirement
Step 6. Obtain approval of Partners IRB (Go directly to IRB forms)
Step 7. Register for a scanner account
Step 8. Sign up for time on the scanner schedules
Step 9. Complete scanner Safety and Operations Training
Step 10. Reserve other facilities if needed (e.g. mock magnet, behavioral testing room)
Optional Steps
- Advertise for research subjects via the Martinos Center website's Volunteer for a Study page. Additional information for study volunteers can also be found on the Volunteer pages as well, such as directions to the Martinos Center and information about who can participate in and how to prepare for an MRI study.
- Post your name/update your profile on the Martinos Center People page.
- Add a link to your lab's web page from the Martinos Center Labs & Programs page.
- Update the description of your study on the Martinos Center Research Projects page.
- Keep up to date on the latest imaging studies, techniques and technologies by attending one of the many events, journal club meetings, lectures, courses, local training sessions or web-based tutorials offered at the Martinos Center (Training & Events). Or offer to present your work at a weekly BrainMap meeting (contact Anastasia Yendiki).
- Contribute a poster of your work to the poster archive (contact Gary Boas).
Other Important Information
- Parking at MGH in Charlestown:
for study staff – Investigators and study staff are eligible for reduced rate parking. Get a letter from Deedee Correia in the Martinos Administrative Office stating that you are working or volunteering at the Center. Take the letter to the Parking Office on the first floor of the parking garage to purchase parking and have ID programmed.
for research subjects – vouchers to be given to research subjects can be purchased from the parking office. - Directions to the Martinos Center, including information on shuttle and T service
- Imager fees and billing information:
The human imagers cost $537/hour. For information about the Psychology Department time block, contact the Administrative Director for Neuroimaging at Harvard's Center for Brain Science. - Policies for use of Martinos Center facilities:
